2/24/2023 – Washington County: State of the Economy presented by Community Bank

Representatives of Moody and Associates, Inc. were on hand for Washington County Chamber of Commerce’s State of the Economy presentation.  Almost 400 people turned out for the spectacular line up.   Luke Bernstein, President and CEO of the PA Chamber kicked off the event discussing Pennsylvania’s CNI Tax plan to take PA from the 2nd highest rate in the nation to the 8th lowest rate by 2031.  He also talked about the opportunities for economic development and getting Jeff Kotula involved to make it happen.

Next on the agenda was Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.  Christina spoke about Pittsburgh International Airport’s transition from a dying hub to a destination airport that is the first in the world to have a microgrid and become energy self-sufficient.  She also gave us a sneak preview of what we can expect from the $1.4 billion renovation that is being built by locally produced steel and a 90% local workforce which will be completed by spring of 2025.  There are also no tax dollars involved as it is completely self-funded.

Last but not least, we heard from the panel of Washington County Commissioners moderated by Evan Rosenberg, Market President and Publisher of the Pittsburgh Business Times.  The Commissioners each spoke about the many opportunities that Washington County has been able to capitalize on thanks to public/private partnerships, cooperation and collaboration of many organizations that make Washington County a great place to live, work and play.
