Today is a special day in southwestern Pennsylvania and the Appalachian Basin. On October 23, 2004, Range Resources embarked on an exploration endeavor that changed this region, and many will say the United States and globally, forever. On that date, Range commenced in the drilling of the first Marcellus Shale gas well (Renz #1) in Mt. Pleasant Township, Washington County. Today, Range celebrated the 20th anniversary of this event at their local headquarters in Cecil Township with community leaders/partners, business partners and friends of the industry. A historic recognition plaque will be placed near the location of the Renz #1 well in the near future.
