Royal Dutch Shell announced it signed a land-option agreement in Beaver County that would be the first step in building an ethane cracker.
The land-option agreement is withHorsehead Corp. (Nasdaq: ZINC) for a site in Potter and Center townships near Monaca, Shell said. The preferred site, as Shell is calling it, will now be the subject of more engineering and design studies, assessment of the supply of ethane from the Marcellus Shale, and "continued evaluation of the economic viability of the project."
